A three-day, intensive residential course designed to give a flying start to those moving into management. Evening syndicate work forms part of the programme and delegates are therefore encouraged to stay at the venue.
The course defines the role and responsibilities of the manager and covers the key skills necessary to manage people effectively. It provides a solid foundation upon which successful managerial careers can be built.
The programme starts by identifying the role and responsibilities of the manager and the common problems faced when moving into this role. Self-management principals are reviewed to ensure delegates can be effective in their role.
The key skills of managing people are then covered in a systematic way including delegation, motivation, giving feedback, counselling, discipline, recruitment procedures, problem solving, developing staff, keys to effective meetings and performance reviews. Clear guidelines are provided on each topic and exercises, case studies, role play, group discussions and tutor feedback used to ensure the necessary skills are developed. Self-assessment tools are used to help delegates relate the training points to their own situation.
Throughout the programme delegates are encouraged to identify specific actions to implement on their return to work.
