What are sales courses

Sales courses usually refers to a training event on the subject of selling to help people learn how to sell their products and services.

These programmes build delegates understanding of the key steps of the sales process required to be able to close a sale. The are also numerous exercises so that delegates build their selling skills and develop an action plan relative to their own situation. These actions are then implemented in the field to help improve sales performance.

The durations vary from short half day seminars through to two and three day programmes. The seminars provide good information about the selling process whilst the longer course allow time for skill development feedback and tutor review. For longer events, each session usually consists of three parts. The first is the tutor led discussion, which includes background and reasons for a certain technique along with how it should be done. This is followed by a delegate exercise to develop the technique relevant to their individual style and specific situation. To ensure full understanding and best practice, delegates then review the outcomes of their exercise with the rest of the group and tutor. Feedback is then given before moving on to the next session.

There is a range of different type of programmes to choose from introductory courses for new and inexperienced sales people through to advanced sales courses to develop the skills of experienced and successful sales people.

Other programmes which would be included as sales courses are programmes such as sales negotiation and account management training. Whilst a negotiation course focuses on improving the outcomes of contracts sold, account management concentrates on keeping and developing key customers.
